Dozens of paddlers pray and are blessed before taking part in the grueling 32-mile Quiksilveredition Molokai to Oahu Paddleboard Race, Sunday, July 30, 2006, at Kaluakoi, Molokai, Hawaii. The paddlers kneel or lie on surfboards and use their bare hands to paddle the entire distance. Some compete by standing on their boards for the entire distance and propelling themselves with a long paddle. The contest was won by Jamie Mitchell of Australia, for the fifth year in a row.
