Latest Update: 16 December 2006

Lehman Caves is one of the best places to see rare shield formations. There are at least 300 shields in the Caves. You'll also find stalactites (hanging tightly from the ceiling, stalagmites (they might make it to the top), columns (formed when stalagtites and stalagmites grow long enough to touch each other), helictites, flowstone, and popcorn (the kind made from calcium carbonate, not corn).

At last !
Proof that there ARE chipmunks living in the Lehman Caves at Great Basin National Park in Nevada.
The Park is just west of Baker, Nevada, near the Nevada-Utah border.

Our guide, Tisha M., had just finished telling us there were no chipmunks in the caves when we found this little guy and his (or her) friends, skittering over the popcorn.
